Overview
The Stupid Fun Club: SFC is a small start up located in Berkeley, CA. Headed by the mastermind of Sim City and The Sims, Will Wright, SFC is focused on developing concepts for toys, video games, TV shows and other forms of entertainment. A majority of the work at SFC goes into creative development, producing proof of concept prototypes, demos and design outlines for final products.
My Contribution
Disclaimer: Developments at the SFC are under strict nondisclosure agreements. I may discuss my work in generalities regarding skills and responsibilities.My position at the club is also focused on prototyping, both physical and virtual products.
My primary role at the club is to conceptualize and prototype toys. The range of prototypes is as varied as the skills used to create them. A majority of the 3D CAD work is done in Solidworks. It is not uncommon for me to be working with projects with hundreds of Solidworks pieces and assemblies. When outsourcing fabrication, I work with vendors to get parts 3D printed or laser cut. I use TurboCAD/CAM as a tool for prepping parts and generating GCODE when fabricating on our CNC machine. Beyond machining, I am responsible for any embedded electronics within our prototypes. Arduino based systems are a staple, having used them in dozens of projects.
Once prototyping is completed I create the pitch materials. Adobe CS and Powerpoint are used to develop presentation materials for clients. Along with our salesperson I have pitched products to outside clients.
Beyond toy development, my work at the club has extended to game design, video game mechanic demos, and hardware prototypes for TV pilots.
Ant Farm Revolution
From the toy division we are proud to announce the launch of the Ant Farm Revolution. Manufactured and sold by Uncle Milton, the Stupid Fun Club developed the concept and produced the first prototypes. My contributions included optical designs and ant wrangling!
